Job Description

SP Industries is seeking a Mechanical Assembly Technician to assemble, test, and troubleshoot various mechanical assemblies, sub-assemblies, and components.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Prepare and assemble various segments of mechanical systems and sub-assemblies under the direction of a supervisor.
  • Use drawings, process procedures and other written documentation to complete the preparation and assembly of components.
  • Fabricate simpler components using hand tools, power tools, fixtures, jigs, drills, taps, saws and other tools and tooling.
  • Run machines and production equipment with assistance and guidance from coworkers or supervisor as may be required.
  • Assist in the preparation of equipment for testing.
  • Meet required specifications and quality standards in a cost effective and timely manner.
  • Interact in a professional manner with customers and end users during the testing phase of equipment acceptance.
  • Clean, prepare and package equipment for shipping.
  • Complete paperwork accurately and in a timely manner as required, such as: Time and Attendance Sheets, Assembly Routers, Non-conformance Records and Test Records.
  • Maintain a neat, clean and organized work area.
  • Suggest changes for improved operations and cost savings.
  • Follow all safety policies, precautions, recommendations and procedures as may be applicable.
  • Follow all company policies, procedures and work instructions in compliance with SP's Quality Management System.
  • Assist other production departments or operations areas based on workloads and needs.
  • Assist in other non-production areas as may be required by supervision and management.
  • Some travel may be required.

Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, and Certifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual should possess the minimum qualifications cited.

Education, Experience, and Work Skills
  • High School graduate or GED.
  • Technical School a plus.
  • Minimum 5 years machine building required.
  • Able to use basic measuring tools such as a tape measure, dial calipers and micrometers.
  • A knowledge of Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMP) relative to the pharmaceutical industry is a plus.
  • Electrical or PLC experience is a plus.

  • The shop contains mobile equipment, machinery, and high voltages.
  • The shop noise level is variable and may require hearing protection in some areas.
  • The shop is heated when required but many areas are not air conditioned.
  • Some shop processes use high voltage arcs or concentrated magnetic fields.
