Job Description

 

 

The Engineering Manager will be responsible for optimizing design methods for the safe production of high-quality equipment at the lowest possible costs beginning with quotation of new project opportunities through design, build, validation and production release. 

 

This individual will:


- Work closely with Sales, Marketing, Operations, Service and Engineering to develop and commercialize new equipment and processes
- Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing and design methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, mechanical, electrical, and controls engineering, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards
- Be responsible for all engineering project costs, maintaining schedules, and the effective management of the engineering team
Duties and Responsibilities
- Determine feasibility of projects by identifying and forecasting detailed costs and engineering requirements
- Effectively manage projects by
- Co-ordination of engineering resources to meet project deadlines and requirements
- Communication with other departments within the company throughout product definition and development to ensure the various needs of each department are being met
- Undertaking reviews at appropriate stages throughout each project

- Ensure all engineering projects, initiatives and processes are in conformance with the organization’s established policies and objectives
- Formulate standards for product lines, ensuring they meet compliance requirements for export around the world
- Keep abreast of trends in technology
- Provide technical expertise within the engineering team
- Complete projects by directing and approving design and modification activities
- Estimate personnel needs and assign work to meet objectives
- Manage staffing, training and performance appraisals to develop and improve employees
- Work with customers as necessary to define and develop products
- Oversee the creation and control of layouts, equipment drawings, specifications and Bills of Material, according to SP requirements
- Interpret drawings, schematics and technical specifications
- Handle multiple projects and assignments for concurrent flow through engineering and production
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
 
- Advanced knowledge of mechanical engineering principals ranging from theoretical to procedural
- Advanced project management skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent 3D CAD design capability, Solidworks preferred
- Knowledgeable of modern design validation tools/techniques and methodologies, such as FEA, DFMA and DFSS
- Proficient in the use of MS Office suite, including MS Project
- Be a great problem solver with a ‘can do’ attitude
- Effective human relations and negotiation skills
- Ability to manage and motivate people within your team
 
Education and Experience
 
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent work experience in a predominantly mechanical field
- 7+ years engineering experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment of capital equipment
- 2+ years project management
- A strong grasp of the physics of materials & heat transfer
- ISO 9001 experienc
