Job Description



Programs, sets-up and operates conventional, special purpose and Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Machines and machining centres to fabricate metallic and non-metallic parts.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Interprets blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workplace, sequence of fabrication operations and set-up requirements.
  • Selects, aligns and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories/materials and programs machines such as mills, lathes and CNC machining equipment.
  • Sets-up, starts, and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings.
  • Able to safely operate material handling equipment, including but not limited to: cranes, fork trucks, scissor lifts etc. where required and available.
  • Verifies dimensions and performs incoming and work-in-process inspections of machined components, fabricated parts, and assemblies.
  • Installs machined parts in fabricated assemblies, mechanisms and equipment.
  • Maintains a neat, clean and organized work area.
  • Follows all safety policies, precautions, recommendations and procedures as may apply.
  • Complies with all company policies, procedures and work instructions to ensure continued ISO certification.
  • Suggests changes for improved operations and cost savings.
  • Performs ongoing preventive maintenance on equipment as is required.
  • Completes all paperwork accurately and timely as is required in the manufacturing process including but not limited to: Time and Attendance Sheets, Assembly Routers, Nonconformance Reports and Test Records.
  • Assists other production departments or Operations™ areas based on workloads and needs. May also be asked to assist in other non-production areas as may be required by supervision and management.

Minimum high school graduate level required with a tech or trade school certificate. Completion of machinist apprenticeship is preferred and/or 10 years minimum machinist experience.




Strong analytical skills are required. Must have at least a good general understanding of Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry.



Able to independently determine applicable machining processes and priority sequences to complete specification requirements.



Fork Truck Drivers License is optional.

Able to lift and carry items that may be a minimum of 50 pounds or able to move heavier items with hand trucks, dollies, carts or other material handling equipment. May be required to work on ladders, lifts or scaffolds to access tall equipment and machinery.




Work is normally performed in a typical interior/manufacturing work environment. Some work required in tight spaces. Working with various power requirements from low voltage to high power applications. Various types of equipment, machines, cranes, and material handling items used throughout the shop. Some processes and running equipment can generate moderately loud noises at times.
