Job Description

Lathe Operator

 

Individuals will be asked to perform a variety of duties related to the manufacturing and development of products within the scientific glass industry. Experience with glass lathes and glass tools in a high precision specification environment is required by performing the following duties:

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: 

 

  • Ability to run all lathe machines.
  • Capable of holding tolerances according specifications.
  • Ability to use and maintain measuring equipment pertaining to department.
  • Read and interpret written work documents.
  • Operator must know what produces certain effects, heat, speed, vacuum and how to correct them.
  • Must have knowledge of quality and production standards.
  • Must maintain quality and production.
  • Must have understanding of mandrels and their care.
  • Basic knowledge of routine set-ups.
  • Advise supervision when equipment repairs are needed.
  • Advise supervisor when supplies are low.
  • Ability to follow work instruction, work orders and process sheets.
  • Complete department related paperwork.
  • Advise supervision when any out of standard condition occurs.
  • Assist in training of new personnel.
  • Keep work area neat and clean.
  • Responsible for measuring your work.
  • Must observe all safety precautions, rules and regulations.
