  • Job Description

    SP Industries is seeking a Welder to layout, fit, and weld stainless steel machined and fabricated components to the frames, tanks and other structures used in the manufacturing of production-scale pharmaceutical processing equipment, and to assist others in the same.

    Essential Duties And Responsibilities

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

    • Interpret blueprints, sketches, drawing, manuals or specifications with inputs from immediate supervisor to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of fabrication operation and set-up requirements.
    • Use required tools, equipment, documentation and supplies to complete required welding tasks.
    • Cut, prepare and assist in the positioning, alignment and fitting of components.
    • Bolt, clamp and tack-weld parts to secure in position for welding.
    • Weld 300 series stainless steels.
    • Use equipment and weld parts using TIG, MIG, SMAC and Orbital welding processes to meet specified engineering requirements under guidance of supervision.
    • Perform miscellaneous fabrication and assembly of components as required to complete fabricated assemblies.
    • Repair or rework fabrications when necessary.
    • Meet or exceed all applicable standards and customer, engineering and quality requirements.
    • Demonstrate the capability to become ASME certified.
    • Safely operate material handling equipment including, but not limited to: cranes, fork trucks, scissor lifts, et cetera, when required.
    • Complete paperwork accurately and in a timely manner as required including, but not limited to: Time and Attendance Sheets, Fabrication Routers, Non-conformance Reports and Test Records.
    • Suggest changes for improved processes and cost savings.
    • Follow all safety policies, precautions, recommendations and procedures as may be applicable.
    • Comply with all company policies, procedures and work instructions to support continued ISO certification.
    • Maintain a neat, clean, and organized work area.
    • Perform any additional tasks (both within and outside the Fabrication Department) not included above that may be requested by supervision or management.

    Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, and Certifications

    To perform this job successfully, an individual should possess the minimum qualifications cited.

    Education, Experience, and Work Skills

    • High School Graduate or GED.
    • Vocational school is a plus.
    • Minimum I to 2 years welding experience.
    • Experience welding 300 series stainless steels is a plus.
    • Experience welding pharmaceutical, chemical, or food processing equipment a plus.

    Language Skills

    • Must speak and understand english well.

    Mathematical Skills

    • Must be able to work with fractions and decimals.
    • Must be able to work with basic math functions.
    • The ability to work with trigonometric functions is a plus.

    Reasoning Ability

    • Able to follow instructions in the fabrication of welded components and ask for assistance and guidance when needed.

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

    • Current or previous certification to ASME welding standards are a plus.
    • Current or previous fork lift driver's certification is a plus.

    Work Environment

    • The shop contains mobile equipment, machinery, and high voltages.
    • The shop noise level is variable and may require hearing protection in some areas.
    • The shop is heated when required but many areas are not air conditioned.
    • Some shop processes use high voltage arcs or concentrated magnetic fields.
    • The welding processes can result in intermittent exposure to vapors, dust, particulates, hot surfaces, bright arc flashes, and layout and welding supplies.
